When LuuLay founder, Michelle sat at her desk trying to make words work that didn’t belong together, she discovered that butterflies and high-heeled boots did, in fact, work well together and that this concept deserved an A. Well, in her mind and world it did and it wasn’t long before co-founder and artist, Peter thought the same thing, too.
Not too long after that crazy homework assignment did Peter take Michelle’s idea and found himself sketching variations of the winged creature wearing nothing but a butt-kicking pair of high-heeled boots. Thus, Lucy Lepidoptera was born.
It took ten years for this brother-sister duo to realize that not only was Lucy Lepidoptera a really fabulous character, but that a creature like Lucy was way too cool to go at it alone. So, off to the insectary they went and The Entophilezzz! emerged shortly thereafter.

A lot of people ask us what the name of our company means and where the name of the cast of characters came from. It’s all very simple, really. LuuLay is a play on Lucy Lepidoptera’s name since she was the inaugural bug that started this crazy business. Luu represents the first syllable of Lucy’s first name, and Lay represents the first syllable of her last name, Lepidoptera (which so happens to be her order, if you know your
entomology!) As for the line name, it’s pronounced en-toe-files and it’s similar to that of an audiophile or bibliophile—it’s entophiles!
